Windows 10 has high disk usage 100% after update

This issue has come up on a variety of hardware from multiple vendors. At first we tried the usual things.

  1. Make sure it isn’t an application that is synchronizing or using the drive
    1. Dropbox
    2. Outlook
    3. Windows Updates
    4. Anti-virus scan
    5. Try to disable indexing on the drive
  2. Check the it’s not something wrong with the drive
    1. health check
    2. performance check
    3. defrag and so on
  3. Disable Microsoft Compatibility Telemetry. You can use multiple ways to get this done.
    1. Group Policy
    2. Registry fix

To change the registry, go to

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SOFTWARE / Policies / Microsoft / Windows / DataCollection
  • Add a new DWORD (32-bit) entry called ” Allow Telemetry” set to 0 (Hex)

You should also set the power settings to maximum while you trying to figure out what is going on.

Let us know if this did the trick as always!
