IT trends and near term growth
A few questions were sent to me about the overall market and trends as to bandwidth and capacity.
One writer suggested that we had reached “peak connection”. He suggested, now that we all have our phone, tablet and computer connected during these troubled time, that we have been pushed to be at that point of high water mark. In other words: What more can we possibly want to connect?
What he left out is part of the answer: The writer probably forgot a few devices already in use by most of us. Namely: smart watchs, Internet connected TVs and the security camera to name but the obvious.
What is next can be labeled as IoT (Internet Of Things). We will come up with and apparenly need other things connected via Wifi, 5G, 4E/LTE. I can’t tell you all the things I see but they include electric devices that report back with statistics on battery usage, charging (think Tesla and solar arrays, for example) as well industry specific devices. Farmers will get real time monitoring of their fields (it’s too dry, too wet and so forth).
The IoT trend is just getting started in my view, so the number of connected devices will easily increase for things that we have yet to know we will need and use in the future.
The fine balance between privacy and safety (to name but one counterpoint) will make some aspects of IT more difficult to select and use at the same time as the technology will be increasingly available and easy to use.
