Contingency Plan and remote access

Contingency plans

Most firms have business continuation plans and contingency plans in place in this day and age. We are in a much better place than 10 years ago.

Recommendations for remote access

  1. Take advantage of the cloud. If you are using Office365 and online solutions (SalesForce and so on) then your users can log in from anywhere with no reconfiguration or headache.
  2. Use VPN: If you have a local ERP system and absolutely need to provide “local” access, then a VPN is the way to go. If you are not using a firewall which gives you the ability to create a VPN tunnel to your remote users, then I would start there. We have tried many brands in the past and work mainly with WatchGuard products. We can even quote you one if you can’t locate a local reseller.
  3. In combination with VPNs you can also use Microsoft’s Remote Desktop (RDP) or VMware’s Horizon to offer remote sessions and virtual desktops remotely.
